October 2024 Surface Wind and Sea Level Pressure Analysis

In October 2024, prominent Southwesterly winds are observed over the northern and central Philippines. Anomalous cyclonic circulation (counterclockwise) was present over Taiwan, aligning with the negative sea level pressure (SLP) anomalies in the same region. Moreover, an anomalous anticyclonic circulation (clockwise) was present over the southeastern part of the Philippines and northeastern Indonesia.

No other significant wind direction anomalies are noted for the month. Moreover, most of Southeast Asia experiences negative SLP anomalies except for patches of positive SLP anomalies over Sumatra Indonesia.

The maps on the right (top to bottom) indicate the observed SLP and wind direction for February 2025, along with the climatological normal from 1991 to 2020, providing context for the anomaly map on the left.
