In December 2024, positive rainfall anomalies were observed across parts of the Philippines, particularly over northern Luzon and portions of Mindanao, coastal areas of southern Thailand, southern Vietnam, eastern Indonesia, including parts of Papua and the surrounding islands, and scattered areas in southern Indonesia, such as along the southern coasts of Java and Sumatra.

In contrast, negative rainfall anomalies were observed over western Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, central Borneo, affecting parts Sarawak, as well as over Sulawesi and eastern Indonesia.

Elsewhere in the region, including much of mainland Southeast Asia (e.g., Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao PDR), rainfall was near normal with no substantial anomalies.

The maps on the right (top to bottom) indicate the observed rainfall for December 2024, along with the climatological normal from 1991 to 2020, providing context for the anomaly map on the left.
