Tropical Cyclone Bebinca, known as Ferdie in the Philippines, was a significant weather event in September 2024, impacting the Philippines, Guam, Ryukyu Islands, and made landfall in China. Initially forming over the Pacific Ocean, Bebinca moved northwest, entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on September 13th, and was designated as Ferdie. While it remained at a distance from the Philippine landmass, Bebinca significantly enhanced the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy rainfall that caused floods and landslides. After a brief stay in PAR, Bebinca exited and continued its northwest track, intensifying into a typhoon before making landfall in Shanghai, China. It is the strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai city since 1949.
