In January 2026, rainfall across Southeast Asia showed a mix of conditions. Above-normal rainfall was prominent over some areas of the Maritime Continent, specifically in some areas in Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, and Papua), most of Eastern Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines (Northern and Eastern) and the southern part of Mailand Malaysia and Singapore. This indicates a wetter-than-usual month for these equatorial regions, driven by strong seasonal monsoon activity.

Conversely, below-normal rainfall occurred in localized areas, including mainland Malaysia, parts of Indonesia and southern Philippines. Meanwhile, most of Mainland SEA experienced near-normal conditions.
