In December 2025, rainfall across Southeast Asia showed a mix of conditions. Above-normal rainfall was prominent over much of the Maritime Continent, specifically in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. This indicates a wetter-than-usual month for these equatorial regions, driven by strong seasonal monsoon activity.
Conversely, below-normal rainfall occurred in localized areas, including parts of Sumatra and the central Philippines. Meanwhile, Mainland Southeast Asia experienced near-normal conditions, staying dry as is typical for the peak of the Northeast Monsoon.
The maps on the right show the total observed rainfall (top) and the 1991–2020 historical average (middle). These provide the context for the anomaly map on the left, which highlights exactly where the rainfall deviated from the long-term norm.
