January 2026 Rainfall (JMA) Analysis

In January 2026, rainfall anomalies over Southeast Asia were generally near normal to above normal across much of the region. Above normal rainfall was observed over large parts of the Maritime Continent, particularly in Indonesia (including Kalimantan and eastern Indonesia), parts of Papua, and southern Philippines, indicating enhanced rainfall during the month.

Meanwhile, below normal rainfall conditions were recorded in localized areas, notably over parts of western Indonesia, the southern Philippines, and portions of eastern Indonesia, reflecting relatively drier conditions in these areas.

The maps on the right (top to bottom) illustrate the observed rainfall for January 2026 and the corresponding 1991–2020 climatological normal, which provide context for interpreting the rainfall anomaly map shown on the left.
